When it comes to cameras, many features define which one the buyer should choose. Although a cause of much confusion in the part of most buyers, digital camera lenses are among the most important features to consider. There are many different types of camera lenses and choosing which one is most important to you should be a great factor in the camera that you will be buying later on.

Fixed Focal Length

This is a feature characteristic of most old camera models - the focal length is fixed, meaning that the lens does not move at all; thus, if you want to have a closer view of your subject, you move closer. These days, a camera with this type of lens is used in disposable cameras but is not often chosen by most buyers for lack of zoom options. Thus, in this example, it could be determined that the digital camera lenses are important.

Optical Zoom

Digital camera lenses with optical zoom easily show - these lenses contract, move, and extend depending on the zoom settings. Because of this, magnification of far subjects could be achieved. The higher the optical zoom lens capability, the better the camera. This particular zoom is also known as the "true zoom". 

Digital Zoom

The digital zoom is not a "real" or "true" zoom in terms of digital camera lenses because the camera's lenses do not actually. However, the camera still adjusts the zoom of the image so that it is still magnified up to a certain degree. Not all cameras have a digital zoom but choosing one would be advantageous. For instance, a Nikon lense with a digital zoom allows taking pictures of greater magnification than one with only an optical zoom.

Converter, Add-ons and Interchangeable

Converter or add-on lenses add more flexibility to compact cameras - these are often relatively inexpensive but allow clearer magnified images to be taken than when the camera's built-in lenses were used. On the other hand, interchangeable lenses such as SLR camera lens are capable of interchanging as their name implies. That means that you could take pictures of various settings, modes, and exposures by merely changing the lenses - there is no need to buy different cameras.

What matters most in photography is the capability of the digital camera lenses - good lenses produce good pictures while bad lenses produce bad pictures. It might also help to choose a camera with stabilization systems to ensure that the pictures will come out good even when the picture taker's hand is not steady.
